Picture 46 Aquarius over Corfe Castle

Although a large constellation, most of the stars in Aquarius are faint and are made even more difficult to locate thanks to light pollution from the towns and cities. However, during Summer 2003 the planet Mars made its closest appearance to the earth in nearly 60,000 years among the stars of Aquarius, making the constellation easy to identify. This photograph was taken only days away from closest approach (27th August 2003) and shows Mars 'blazing' at maximum brightness among the stars of Aquarius, which are setting over Corfe Castle.
